Grants from the Dean Provence Endowment for Excellence in Education have provide New Albany Elementary School students with a variety of resources to stimulate and facilitate their learning process.
Phonemic Awareness Software Bundle teaches through games
Students in Bridget Spencer’s kindergarten class at New Albany Elementary School enjoy playing games on the interactive board that stimulates phonemic awareness. Spencer received funding for the Phonemic Awareness Software Bundle through the Dean Provence Endowment for Excellence Grant.
The bundle includes software that can be used on individual student computers, as well as the interactive board. These games help build phonemic awareness through games that include phonics, sounds, and rhyming words.
Shoebox Tasks reinforce skills to promote independent learning
Students in Susan Kelly’s class at New Albany Elementary School complete activities using Shoebox Tasks. Shoebox Tasks are designed as early learning and pre-academic skills that promote independent learning.
There are sixteen shoebox tasks that include curriculum materials to improve hand coordination, finger dexterity, one-to-one correspondence, sorting, stacking, pull-apart skills, and put-in skills.
The Shoebox Tasks materials and curriculum were made available through funding from the Dean Provence Endowment for Excellence in Education Grant.
Library enhancement project adds non-fiction resources
Second grade students in Mr. Glen Reeder’s EXCEL class enjoyed reading books about the presidents they had researched during the first semester. Approximately 100 non-fiction, resource books featuring presidents, first ladies, states, and countries were recently purchased for the New Albany Elementary School Library.
NAES Librarian Lisa Skinner was awarded funding for this library enhancement project through the Dean Provence Endowment for Excellence in Education Grant.
