“Well, I Reckon…” answers inquiry about Martintown Rd. bridge

Reader Brant Robbins asked the NAnewsweb.com FB page for information regarding the expected completion of the new bridge under construction on Union County’s Martintown Road. The following information is given in answer to his inquiry.

Union County Board of Supervisor’s President Randy Owen told NAnewsweb.com Tuesday evening, March 22nd that the contractor has 75 working days to complete a new bridge on Martintown Road. Weekends, holidays and days when weather does not allow work to be done do not count in the 75-day total.

Given likely spring rains and other factors, the project is expected to be complete in three or four months. That means that the demolition of the old and construction of the new bridge, which began earlier this month, could possibly be completed by or before Independence Day, July 4th.

Truckload of steel backed into place for unloading.

On March 23rd, the view downstream of the Little Tallahatchie River showed that the former bridge has been removed. The bridge contractor had trucks busily unloading the large steel I-beams that will form the support structure of the new Martintown Road bridge over the river.
