Wayne Lamar Roberts
January 23, 1927 – December 11, 2017
New Albany-Wayne Lamar Roberts, age 90, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Alpine, MS on January 23, 1927 to Robert C. Roberts and Nettie Hines Roberts. He was a graduate of Sherman High School, Holmes Jr. College and Delta State University. He began his life of public service as a teacher, coach and principal. Later he served as a Union County Justice Court Judge from (1972-1976) before founding Roberts Paving in New Albany. He was a member and deacon of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He had served as secretary of Union County Baptist Association and Ellistown Masonic Lodge. He was one of the founders of the Alpine Water and Fire Department.
He was a U.S. Army Sargent and a veteran of WWII.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 14, 2017 at United Funeral Service with Bro. Jason Howell and Bro. Whit Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. United Funeral Service will be in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Garrison Roberts; a daughter, Kathy Roberts Pardue (Gary); two sons, Larry Roberts (Sharon) and Bobby Roberts (Frankie); four grandchildren, Blake Roberts, Emily Forman (Clay), Hanna Basil (Tyler) and Molly Pardue; and one great granddaughter, Carrie Clayton Forman.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 13, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Gary Pardue, David Gilbert, Richard Pannell, Clay Forman, Tyler Basil and Ronald Roberts.
In honor of Mr. Robert’s service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the U.S. Army flag during his visitation and service.
