Thomas “Tommy” Wicker

August 21, 1941 – November 21, 2018

 

Thomas (“Tommy”) Leroy Wicker, 77, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018. He was born on August 29, 1941, in Humboldt, Tennessee to William and Syble Wicker. Tommy grew up in and spent most of his life in New Albany. He attended and graduated from New Albany High School. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps., serving from 1959 to 1963. During this time, Tommy served as a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. After serving his country, Tommy returned home and continued his education at Northeast Mississippi Community College and the University of Mississippi. He was a member of the Freemasonry, and he attended Grace Chapel at Pickwick in Counce, TN.

Tommy loved his country and his church, and these foundations guided his life. He was a man of the water and loved spending time at Pickwick lake with his friends, family, and dog, Jack. He was the captain of the Spirit Lifter. Tommy was also a licensed pilot. He was an avid follower of college football, particularly SEC teams. He was also an avid fan of horse racing and a member of the Oak Lawn Jockey Club in Hot Springs for over 20 years.

He is survived by his partner, Lois Bullwinkel, and his sister, Bettye Jo Gaba.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Lester Wicker and Syble Godfrey Wicker, and his brother, Samuel Terry Wicker.

Visitation will be held at United Funeral Home in New Albany on Sunday, November 25 fromt 1:00 PM until the service time at 2:00p.m. The family requests that memorials be made to Grace Chapel at Pickwick, 12750 Hwy. 57, Counce, TN 38326.

In honor of Mr. Wicker’s service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the U.S. Marine flag during his visitation and service.
