Today is Mississippi primary elections day.

Union County Circuit Clerk Phyllis Stanford is shown as she prepared a voting machine on Monday, June 4. She said she expects a relatively low turnout for today’s Democratic and Republican primary elections and that her office had received only 54 absentee ballots as of Monday.

Incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Roger Wicker has a single challenger. The Democratic primary ballots has six candidates seeking the nomination to challenge the Republican winner in November.

In the primary elections for the First District U.S. Congressional seat, incumbent Republican Representative Trent Kelly has no challenger. There is one congressional candidate each on the Democratic and Reform Party primary ballots.

The polls open at 7 am and close at 7 pm.
