About the Artists

While Sam Mosley is known widely for his full-band R&B performances, he has found acclaim in the industry as a songwriter. He and late partner in music Bob Johnson penned several gold records including some for Johnny Taylor and a number of Malaco artists.

Those who’ve not heard Sam on acoustic guitar, just doing his thing…maybe even playing some Merle Haggard, will be in for a surprising treat.

The daughter of Tupelo’s Paul Thorn, Kit Thorn, is showing that music must run in the genes of the Thorn family. Her deep, rich vocals and songs that tell the stories of real people and the things that real people go through have taken her around the south, including a more than a couple of performances on Thacker Mountain Radio – a statewide radio variety show produced in Oxford each week.

A three-time Mississippi Music Awards nominee, Kevin Waide has been honing his craft for years, mixing blues with generous helpings of funk, jazz, country and “church” music. Kevin spends a lot of time touring with his band, the Kevin Waide Project in clubs and halls around the country.

The three will be performing acoustic sets while talking about their songs, craft and respective journeys at The Basement next Thursday night. Doors will open at 8pm and the music will begin around 9pm. Tickets are available online or at the door for $7. Refreshments will be available.

This first, and each of the upcoming, Songwriters Sessions will be taped at The Basement and broadcast on Michaela Compton’s “Local Licks” show which airs each week on Z-98.5. A new video edition of the show will be produced by and broadcast on TV-99 New Albany, who is co-sponsoring the event.
