Sylvia Gillentine Nanney, 66, passed away, Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Mississippi.
Sylvia was born September 13, 1950, to Ottis and Mildred Clayton Gillentine, of Tupelo, MS. She was a beloved music teacher in the New Albany School District, but was known for her outstanding accomplishments in musical theater. Sylvia was the director of the New Albany High School Musical for 20 years, along side her husband, Phil Nanney, and her children. Sylvia was a proud member of the Tupelo Community Theater, the Magnolia Civic Center, and was an alumni of the Ole Miss Concert Singers. She was a faithful member of Ingomar Baptist Church, where she sang in the Ingomar Baptist Sanctuary Choir.
Services will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Ingomar Baptist Church, with Dr. Terry Cutrer, Rev. Tom Sumrall, Rev. Whit Lewis, and Dr. Timothy Prather officiating. Burial will be in New Albany at Vista Memorial Park, United Funeral Home.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Phil Nanney; daughter Mary Beth Muncie and husband Jim; son Phillip Nanney and wife Jessica; five grandchildren, Maggie Grace Muncie, Mary Clayton Muncie, Arden Nanney, Bristol Nanney, and Tripp Nanney of New Albany.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Ottis and Mildred Gillentine; sister, Mildred Ann Gillentine White; and a beloved aunt, Ruby Nell Richey.
Pallbearers will be Mark White, Michael Gray, Brandon Moore, Mark Hankins, Mark Garrett, Hollis Brown, Will Curry, and David Hopple.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m., Monday, May 15, 2017, at Ingomar Baptist Church.
Additional viewing time will begin at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2017, with service following at 4 p.m. at Ingomar Baptist Church.
