Reward now $5000 minimum in New Albany hit-and-run incident

The reward has been increased to at least $5,000 for information about the hit-and-run incident that critically injured a pedestrian last week in New Albany.

New Albany Police Chief Chris Robertson and Mayor Tim Kent announced Monday afternoon that the city government will assure that the reward amounts to a minimum of $5,000.

NAPD presence on Martintown Road is greatly increased as a result of the department’s intense search for a hit and run driver.

Robertson told nanewsweb.com last week that that the NAPD had given the arrest of the driver that fled the scene “our absolute top priority.”

“This incident had shocked everyone in our community,” said Mayor Kent. “We will do whatever we must in our efforts to obtain justice for the victim and her family.

Sandra Elion was struck by a motor vehicle as she attempted to retrieve mail from her mailbox on Martintown Road shortly before 5 pm, Thursday, Jan. 11th. She received multiple life threatening injuries, and the driver who struck her sped away from the scene.

A $1,000 reward by Crimestoppers of North MS had already been announced last week. Today’s announcement means the reward will be $5,000 or more.
