New Albany to Bring Back an Expanded Freedom Fest Celebration

Freedon Fest Celebration with "FIRST HAND" political speaking, fireworks and much more set for Saturday, June 27th.

NEW ALBANY, MS – New Albany will have a new event this summer with the reintroduction of the New Albany Freedom Fest which will be held at Park Along the River in Downtown New Albany on Saturday, June 27th.

After a hiatus of a couple of years, New Albany Tourism and other community groups like the Pilot Club and Union County Republican Women (UCRW) are bringing the festival back and adding new programs to the event.

“The UCRW’s goal is to provide a place for the public to come see and hear the candidates running for local and state office. We are excited to team up with other political and civic groups to produce this event,” says Sue Morrisson, chair of the Union County Republican Women

This year’s event will include free concerts from Sam Mosley, Mississippi Stomp and other entertainment as well as a fish-fry and BBQ Cookoff, a fireworks show, and a political event, dubbed FIRST HAND, where voters can hear, first hand, from candidates in local and state contests.

“We are very pleased to bring this event back to New Albany,” says Sean Johnson, the city’s tourism director and one of the organizers of the event. “While the nation has had a rough time of it lately, things have been going well in New Albany and that’s something to celebrate. And we’re doubly excited to hold the event in an election year so that voters can hear their candidate’s positions first-hand.”

The event will kick off at noon with a fish fry by area churches and the FIRST HAND political speaking, which will feature politicians speaking throughout the day with breaks for music and other programs. At dusk there will be a memorial service for our military and first responders, followed by concerts by Mississippi Stomp and Sam Mosley & the Muscle Shoals Horns before the event concludes with a professional fireworks show.

New Albany Freedom Fest will be a free, family-friendly event.
