New Albany Main Street Association Third Annual Tree Lighting
New Albany, Miss., October, 2018: New Albany’s third annual Tree Lighting is set for Thursday, Nov. 29. The event will kick off with the lighting of the tree at 6 pm at Cooper Park and be followed with live music from local school and church groups. There will be a hot cocoa station, visits with Santa Claus at the Gazette building, and carriage rides with Mississippi Smooth Carriage Service.
One fifth-grade student from both New Albany and Union County School Districts will be given the opportunity, once again, to light the tree by participating in an art contest. Art contest rules have been distributed at each campus and coordinated with teachers. Student art work will be due by Wednesday Nov. 13, and winners notified and announced Friday, Nov. 16.
The Main Street promotions committee has expanded the annual Tree Lighting into a community-wide opportunity for local organizations to set up booths for vending. Tracy Vainisi, Main Street’s promotions chair said, “We want to create a Christmas Market-type atmosphere, with festive, holiday set ups during the Tree Lighting event.
Civic, school, church, and youth-type groups that would like to participate can email me at tvainisi1967@gmail.com or leave a message at the Main Street office with Billye JeanStroud.”
