New Albany MS runoff election rules

New Albany voters will go to the polls tomorrow, Tuesday, May 2nd, to vote in party primaries to select candidates for several city offices.

No mayoral contests in Primary Election

Incumbent Mayor Tim Kent, a Democrat, has no challenger in the primary election. He will face incumbent First Ward Alderman Jeff Olson, who is not opposed in the Republican primary and will be on the June 6th ballot as the Republican candidate for mayor. Olson has served multiple terms on the city board as a Democrat.

Five party nominees to be chosen Tuesday

There are four contests to be decided in the Democratic Party city primary and one in the Republican primary.

Chief of Police

Chris Robertson

Paul Voyles

The Democratic primary to select a candidate for New Albany Chief of Police is the race likely to attract most attention tomorrow. Democrat incumbent Chris Robertson, completing his first term as police chief, will face Paul Voyles, a Democrat, who formerly served as a city police officer.

 

Alderman-at-Large

Incumbent Democratic Alderman at Large Scott Dunnam chose not to run again for that position. Two Democrats and two Republicans are competing for their party’s nomination for Alderman-at-Large for the June 6 general election.

Democrats

Larry Dykes

Jerry Shiverdecker

Larry Dykes, a political activist, who is a retired U.S. Army non-commissioned officer, is competing for the Democratic nomination for the Alderman-at-Large position. Dykes is opposed in the Democratic primary by Jerry Shiverdecker, who is co-editor and owner of NAnewsweb.com

 

 

Republicans

Keith Conlee

David Brown

Businessman Keith Conlee is seeking his party’s nomination for Alderman-at-Large. Also running as a Republican for the position is David Brown, a paramedic.

 

 

 

Alderman, Ward One

Scott Dunnam

Two Democrats are running for the First Ward Alderman position Jeff Olson vacated to run for Mayor.  Scott Dunnam chose not to run again for Alderman-at-Large, and is a Democratic candidate for First Ward Alderman. Dunnam, a local builder who specializes in the restoration and renovation of historic buildings, is opposed in the Democratic primary by Catania Spears Windom. Kevin Dale White

Incumbent Ward Three Alderman Kevin Dale White, a Democrat, faces Chris Buford in the primary. White is a fireman in Holly Springs and Buford is a manager at Vuteq. (NAnewsweb.com

 

 

 

Unopposed primary candidates

Besides Democrat incumbent Mayor Tim Kent and his Republican challenger Jeff Olson, other unopposed candidates in tomorrow’s primary include:

  • Amy Livingston, running for Ward One Alderman as a Republican.
  • Ward Two incumbent Democrat Alderman Johnny Anderson, who has no Republican opponent in the June 6th general election.
  • Will Tucker, the incumbent Republican Ward Four Alderman, who has no Democratic opponent in the June 6 general election.

VOTERS IN ALL WARDS WILL VOTE AT THE UNION COUNTY COURTHOUSE ON MAY 2ND.
