NAES Read-A-Thon could have principal sleeping on the roof

Read-A-Thon

In an effort to become better readers and develop a love for literacy, New Albany Elementary School kicked off its Read-A-Thon on Wednesday, October 31. Students had fun dancing and singing and learning more about the Read-A-Thon from Bully and his friends.

The Read-A-Thon started Monday, November 5 and continues until Friday, November 16. Informational letters were sent home with students after the kick-off.

Students are being encouraged to read all types of books especially during the ten reading sessions that have been scheduled each morning. They will be asking family and friends to sponsor them with a pledge for their reading.

Students will receive individual prizes for raising money through pledges. A pizza party will be provided for the class in each grade that collects the most money and the class that is the overall school winner will receive an ice cream sundae party.

Prizes will be given to the top teacher in each grade. Teacher incentives are being provided by BNA Bank; Friendly City Tire; Shelter Insurance; Sugarees Bakery; Regan Russell, Attorney; and Tallahatchie Gourmet.

An overall school goal of $20,000 has been set and if students reach that goal Principal Gwyn Russell has agreed to sleep on top of the school. A portion of the proceeds will be used for new seating in the NAES Library.
