Mary Ivy Cox

(September 28, 1948 – May 16, 2017)

Mary Ivy Cox, 68, of New Albany, died Tuesday, May 16th, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family after an extended illness.

She was born September 28th, 1948 in the Bradley Community in Oktibbeha County to the late Henry Alvin Ivy and Louise Ellington Ivy. She was a retired Registered Nurse. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in New Albany. She was a talented seamstress and a great cook who loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 19th, 2017 in the Chapel at United Funeral Service with Bro. Randy Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in the Glenfield Memorial Park. United Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Cox of New Albany; a daughter, Morgan Coombs (John) of New Albany; a son, Douglas Griffin (François) of Amsterdam; a stepson, Kelly Young (LaChrisha) of Saltillo; seven grandchildren, Perrin, Jackson, Aidan, Natalie, Samuel, Emma, and Carrigan; three sisters, Nora Lee Beauchamp of Moss Point, Evelyn Ivy of Myrtle, and Betty Hall of Ecru; a brother, Billy Ivy of Hickory Flat; and her lifelong friend, Teresa Spencer of Shannon.

She was preceded in death by her son, Scott Griffin; her parents; two brothers, Jimmy Ivy and Johnny Ivy; and two sisters, Berneice Nobles and Doris Richey.

Pallbearers are Danny Ray Beauchamp, Rob Nobles, Mike Nobles, John Ivy, Chris Dye, David Sansing, Adam Hardy, and Tony Ivy.

Honorary Pallbearers are Joe Griffin, Ricky Cox, Denny Garner, Steve Cox, Kenny Cox, Doug Cox, Daniel Cox, Craig Young, and David Young.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at United Funeral Service, and noon until service time on Friday.

The family would like to convey their sincere thanks to Dr. Brad Scott and the staff of HomeCare Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
