Mamie Ruth McClure

February 10, 1934 – August 25, 2017

Mamie Ruth McClure, 83 years old, left this world for her eternal home August 25, 2017. She left this world surrounded by her family whom she loved and had devoted her life to.

Mamie was born on February 10, 1934 in New Albany, Mississippi. She was one of 8 children born to Ruben Wesley and Mattie Elizabeth Camp Hogue. All of her siblings have preceded her in death. Mamie attended school at Pleasant Ridge School.

Mamie married Travis McClure in 1961. They each brought two children into the marriage, but raised them all as their own. Mamie was a devoted Christian wife, mother, and Mamaw; her family was her life. She was employed at Mohasco Furniture for 44 years. During these years she also cared for her mother until her death in 1991. After retirement she cared for Travis who had been disabled with a stroke until his death in 2010. Also in her retirement years she enjoyed babysitting her great grandchildren, Dylan Randle, Haleigh Snyder, Audrie Randle, and Jadon Snyder, they were her pride and joy. Mamie enjoyed working in her yard, canning, gardening, baking, and cooking for her family and church. She was always the first to help anyone in need, and to know her was to love her.

This world has never known a more loving and caring Christian woman. She touched the lives of all who knew her. Mamie was a faithful member at Wallerville Baptist Church for many years where she also sang alto in the choir. Later in life she became a member of Anchor Holds Church and attended there as long as her health allowed. She set an amazing example for all who knew her, and she loved the Lord with all her heart.

A celebration of life will be held at United Funeral Home August 27, 2017 at 2:00. Her nephew Robert Hogue will lead the services and Bro. Jim Varnon will bring the eulogy. Visitation will be August 26, 2017 from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm.

Mamie is preceded in death by her parents, Ruben Wesley Hogue and Mattie Elizabeth Camp Hogue. Her husband of 49 years, Travis Dewayne McClure. Her siblings; George Hogue, William Hogue, Curtis Hogue, Billy Hogue, Estelle Dillard, Hazel Grubbs, and an infant sister. She was also preceded in death by her grandson Travis Delane Moody.

She is survived by four children. Her oldest daughter and caregiver, Shirley Ruth Tedford and her husband Gary, her daughter Elizabeth Ann Moody and her husband Tommy, her son Danny Clifton Thomas and his wife Janet, and her son Darrel Dewayne McClure. Her grandchildren; Brian Randle (Robyn), Joey Moody (Michelle), Amy Snyder (Jason), Scotty McClure, Amanda Roberson, Cristie McCraw (Hugh), Jennifer Harris (Tim), and Stephen Thomas (Dena). She was also a great grandmother to 25 children who fondly called her Mamaw. She is survived by two brother in laws; Tommy McClure (Sandra), David McClure (Martha), and one sister in law Shelby Jean Hogue Gullick. She leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews. Mamie had some very special people who always faithfully came to visit and bring her joy; Emily Hanna, Donna Walker, Betty Christopherson, Shirley Skelton, Carol Thomas, and Ann Jones. Mamie and her family were very thankful to have a loving sitter who helped care for her for almost 2 years, Dominique Slack.

Pallbearers will be Terry Grubbs, Junior Grubbs, Randy Moody, James Hogue, Wayne Hogue, Bill Hogue, and Mike McClure. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy McClure, David McClure, Michael Dean Bailey, Terry Hogue, Mike Randle, Mike McCord, and Danny Jordan.
