New Albany, MS- Miracle Hurd, a local New Albany child, delivered a box containing an additional $1,977 in contributions Thursday afternoon, January 12th, to New Albany Police Chief Chris Robertson.
She and her mother first contacted Chief Robertson in August of last year. The Hurds said a dream had inspired the seven-year-old to raise money for police officers “so they would not get killed.”
With help from her mother, Jennifer, Miracle started an account called “Miracles 500′” on the Go Fund Me website. Jennifer Hurd said the “Miracles 500” account raised $500 in the first six hours it was posted.
Though the original idea was to convince 500 donors to give $20 each, an anonymous individual donor from Prentiss County learned of the fundraiser and sent a check for $1,000 by August 18th, 2016. Many of Miracle’s donations are for $20, generally ranging from $15 to $100.
