Blue Springs-Lillian Helen Mayo Hampton, 98, passed on to heaven Tuesday, December 26, 2017. The oldest of ten children, she was born February 25, 1919 to R.C. Mayo and Mary Crumpton Mayo in Union County. She was a life long resident of the county, and lived most of her 98 years in the Blue Springs area. She married Ray Haskel “Pop” Hampton on December 5, 1934. She spent her life happily and faithfully serving her Lord Jesus, her husband, and her family. She was a member of Beech Springs Baptist Church in Union County where she actively taught VBS, Sunday School, and helped establish the Church’s WMU chapter. She was known for her huge vegetable gardens, whose bounty she loved to share. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. She pieced and hand quilted hundreds of beautifully colored quilts as gifts to her family and friends. She had been a resident of the Martin Greenhouse in Traceway Retirement Community, Tupelo MS, since October, 2014.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2017 at United Funeral Service with Bro. Felix Hutcheson and Bro. Sammy Coker officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park. United Funeral Service will be in charge of the arrangements.

She leaves behind four children who adored her, Mary Virginia Wilson, Wayne Hampton, (Carolyn), Betty Gammel (Charles) all of New Albany and Wanda Kay Reed (Paul) of Blue Springs; a sister, Christine Hester; eight grandchildren; David Wilson, Barry Wilson, Mike McBrayer, Debbie McBrayer, Gerald Hampton, Randy Gammel, Christy Reed Watson and Scotty Reed; twenty-four great grandchildren; and sixteen great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Shirley McBrayer; a son-in-law, Willard McBrayer; three sisters, Elizabeth “Lizzy” McDonald, Ruth McDonald and Marie Rogers; and five brothers, Carl Mayo, Bill Mayo, Fred Mayo, Gene Mayo and Waymon Mayo.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
