John Preston Anson

New Albany-John Preston Anson, age 88, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, MS. He was born July 30, 1929 in Clinton, Iowa to Adon Anson and Mary Carstensen Anson.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. His church home was Bethlehem United Methodist Church. He loved nature and wildlife which was expressed in his paintings and poetry. A self-taught artist, he won many awards and recognition for his work. Among other interest, was his dedication as a Good Samaritan Volunteer and traveling with his wife.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 17, 2017 at United Funeral Service with Bro. Jeff Lawrence officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery. United Funeral Service will be in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Carol Young Hicks Anson; a daughter, Suzanne Anson Adams of Sarasota, FL; a step daughter, Jann Hicks Green of West Memphis, AR; a son, Howard P. Anson of Sarasota, FL; two step sons, Gregory Hicks of West Memphis, AR and Scott Hicks of New Albany, MS; a sister, Joyce Splitt of Venice, FL; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Johnny Anson; two sisters, Cheryl Press and Jo Crane; and a brother, Robert Anson.
Pallbearers will be Michael Young, Phil Young, Terry R. Young, Matt Young, John Walker Young and Steve Todd.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
In honor of Mr. Anson’s service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the U.S. Navy flag during the visitation and service.
