James Wallace “Mose” Stokes

James Wallace ‘Mose’ Stokes, 87, died December 23, 2017, at Magnolia Place in New Albany. He was born November 9, 1930, in Union County to Wallace Murry Stokes and Vera West Stokes. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was owner of Stokes’ Supermarket. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served in an artillery battalion during the Korean War. He loved his customers and had a special interest in helping the underdog.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2017, at United Funeral Service with Bro. Everett Childers officiating. Burial will be in Vista Memorial Park. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by 1 daughter: Theresa Childers (John); 1 brother: Gilbert Harold Stokes; 6 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 daughter-in-law: Teresa Hall Stokes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Annie Marie Scruggs Stokes; 2 sons: Ronnie Stokes and Keith Stokes; 1 sister: Mavis Ray; and 2 brothers: Woodrow Murry Stokes and William Clovis Stokes.

Pallbearers will be: Cullen Stokes, Caleb Childers, Joshua Childers, Jimbo Waldrop, Heath Davis, and Joil Thornton.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2017, at United.

In honor of Mr. Stokes service to his country United Funeral Service will fly the U. S. Army flag during his visitation and service
