Myrtle-Houston W. Medlin, age 87, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at his residence. He was born August 9, 1930, in New Albany to Alvie Medlin and Gladys Elder Medlin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was retired from the furniture business. He was a lay preacher, member of Northside Baptist Church, and was involved in nursing home ministry.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2018, at United Funeral Service with Bro. Mike Benefield and Bro. Terry Rodgers officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park. United Funeral Service will be in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Hall Medlin of Myrtle; a daughter, Carol Medlin Rodgers of New Albany; three sons, Eddie Medlin (Sandy) of New Albany, Rickey Medlin (Melody) of Myrtle, and Don Medlin of Holly Springs; two brothers, Robert Medlin and Joe Medlin; ten grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children, Allie Mae Ausburn Medlin; a son, Jimmy Dale Medlin; a sister, Flossie Mae Pannell; and a brother, James Medlin; and a daughter-in-law, Portia Medlin.
Pallbearers will be Michael Medlin, Alvin Medlin, Jeff Hancock, Keegon Porch, Bryan Medlin, Benjamin Paist, and DJ Medlin. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeremy Mills, Charlie M. Porch, Terry Rogers, Shaneh Rodgers, Crystal Medlin Hancock, and Lydia Medlin Mills.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 24, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In honor of Mr. Medlin’s service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the U.S. Navy flag during the visitation and service.
