George “Tommy” Thomas Shelton

August 21, 1943 – June 2, 2018

Blue Springs-George “Tommy” Thomas Shelton, age 74, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018, at his residence. He was born August 21, 1943, in Hickory Flat, MS to George Dewey Shelton and Virgie Irene Burks Shelton. He was retired from BN Railroad and a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a deacon and member of Mt. Gilead Church. He loved hunting, fishing, Ole Miss sports, going to his grandkids events, grilling, and outdoors in general. He was always helping people.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at United Funeral Service with Bro. Larry Bain and Bro. Brandon Murphree officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park. United Funeral Service will be in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Thomas Shelton; a daughter, Dawn Michelle Shelton; a grandson, Cole Bishop; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Rickey Thomas (Mary); five nieces, Regina Wright, Renee Maddox, Kim Hall, Alison Maddox, and Rhonda Thomas; and one nephew, Kevin Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Don Shelton, Jack Burks, Homer Shelton, and Ed Shelton; two sisters, Carrie McMillen and Anna Lou; and one nephew, Martin Lyn Thomas.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Houge, Cory Treadaway, Kevin Thomas, Adam Gregory, Chet Hicks, and Dwight Hall. Honorary pallbearers will be Rickey Thomas, Dyllon Maddox, and Cole Bishop.

Visitation will be Monday, June 4, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In honor of Mr. Shelton’s service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the U.S. Army flag during the visitation and service.
