Popular Fossil Road Show returns to Museum June 10th

The annual Fossil Road Show at the Union County Heritage Museum is set Saturday, June 10, from 10 – 2.  It’s free and a fun opportunity for people to have their objects identified, to show their collections and to learn more about the interesting fossil and geological history of this area.

Paleontologists and geologists will be at the event to answer questions and provide the latest information about new fossil finds in Mississippi.

George Phillips, Paleontologist from the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science will tell about the discovery last summer of the horned dinosaur tooth in Union County that is very rare in the world of dinosaur fossils.   A cast of the tooth will be on display.

Activities for children will have them excavating dinosaurs and creating other fossil wonders.

Geologist Charles Swann and others from the University of Mississippi will be at the event identifying fossils and rocks for the public.  The Geode Cracker from Memphis will bring his amazing machine that accurately cuts the crystal filled rocks in half.  The Gem and Minerals merchant W.C. McDaniel will have his glittering wares for sale.

The event is free and made possible by the Community Partners who make the museum’s programming possible.
