Election update: Two new qualifiers for municipal elections

Scott Dunnam, who has served three terms as New Albany’s Alderman-at-Large, has qualified to run in the city Democratic primary election as alderman for Ward 1. Incumbent Ward 1 Alderman, Jeff Olson, qualified Tuesday to run for Mayor as a Republican, thus making the Ward 1 position on the city board an open seat.

Keith Conlee has qualified to run in the May Republican primary for the open Alderman-at-Large seat on the New Albany board.

New Albany, MS- Tuesday, January 3, was the first day candidates could qualify for the 2017 New Albany municipal elections.

Two candidates qualified to run for New Albany mayor in the May 2 primary elections.

Incumbent Mayor Tim Kent, now in the last year of his third term, qualified to run again for mayor as a Democratic.

Jeff Olson, incumbent alderman for New Albany’s Ward 1, qualified to run for mayor as a Republican. Olson was elected as a Democrat to his seat on the board of aldermen.

Will Tucker, the incumbent alderman for Ward 4, qualified  to run again as a Republican.

Johnny Anderson, incumbent alderman for New Albany’s Ward 2, qualified to run for re-election late Monday afternoon. Anderson was elected as a Democrat.

New Albany Chief of Police Chris Robertson, who is in the fourth year of his first term as chief, qualified to run for re-election again as a Democrat.

Candidates for municipal office  have until 5 p.m. on Friday, March 3, to file for the primary elections. The primary election will be held Tuesday, May 2.  The primary run-off,  if one is necessary, will be Tuesday, May 16.

The municipal general election will be Tuesday, June 6.

The four-year terms of office for city officials will begin on Tuesday, July 3.
