New Albany- Edith Bernedine “Bernie” Gilmore Prawl, 85, died at Union County Rehabilitation Center from cancer on July 20, 2017.
Bernie was born October 2, 1931, in Redding, California to Bernard and Ruth White Sechrist Gilmore. She was a graduate of Shasta Union High School’s class of 1949. In 1952, Bernie graduated from Chico State University with an undergraduate in English with her teaching credentials in K-12. She married the love of her life, William “Bill” Prawl on February 6, 1953 and went on to pursue her graduate degree in English literature. She taught most of her years in the surrounding Sacramento area at Arlington Heights and Greer Elementary. Bernie was the secretary for her husband’s heavy machinery repair and service business, Bill Prawl, Inc. in West Sacramento. She spent many of her retired years in the quaint Sierra-Nevada Mountains around Lake Almanor in northern California before moving to New Albany, Mississippi in 2005.
Bernie was an outgoing Delta Sigma Epsilon sorority member, member of Millville order of the Eastern Star, the River City Quilt Club, Red Hat’s Society, Chester Peacemaker’s Quilt Guild, hobby seamstress, an avid reader and an active member of Ingomar Baptist Church for the last 10 years.
Funeral services will be at 2:00p.m. Sunday, July 23, 2017 at United Funeral Service with Dr. Terry Cutrer officiating. Burial will be in Ingomar Cemetery. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
She leaves her sons to cherish her sweet memories: Ed (Sheila) Prawl, New Albany, Mississippi; William (Pauline) Prawl, Wilmar, Minnesota, and Raymond (Suzette) Prawl, Marysville, California; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and devoted friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Franklin Prawl.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Alexander, Gary Allen, Bobby Sappington, Jerry Edwards, Ronnie Raines and Bro. Clyde Pound. Honorary pallbearers will be the Joy Sunday School Class of Ingomar Baptist Church.
