New Albany-Connie Maudine Mathis Spurgeon, 88, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Dogwood Plantation in New Albany. She was born near Senatobia on July 26, 1929 to James Henry Rowe and Christine Rowe. She was a homemaker. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in New Albany. She was also involved in the Marjorie Houston Sunday School Class at the church. She enjoyed needlepoint, making cross stitch quilts and gardening.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2017 at United Funeral Service with Bro. Tim Prather officiating. Burial will be at Vista Memorial Park. United Funeral Service will be in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by a daughter, Constance Dawn Bickell (David) of Dickinson, TX; a son, Erst Dean Mathis (Tina) of Ingomar, MS; two step-sons, Dewitt Spurgeon of Oxford, MS and George E. Spurgeon Jr. of Tallahassee, FL; a sister, Ailene Rowe McKinnen of Senatobia, MS; three grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Guy Nelton Manning; her first husband, Erst R. “Matt” Mathis; her second husband, George E. Spurgeon; a daughter, Gail Wilborn; a sister, Betty Rowe Dew; and a step-sister, Kathryn Manning Power.
Visitation will be Monday, July 17, 2017 from 11:00a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
