Bonnie Messer

November 2, 1952 – August 6, 2017

Yvonne Bonnie Inett Short Messer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister lost her courageous three-year battle with cancer to go home to her Lord on Sunday, August 6, 2017. She was a member of Bissell Baptist Church.

Bonnie was the daughter of Paul and Mary Sue Hodge Short. She attended school at Falkner. She worked in furniture and landscaping in earlier years before devoting the remainder of her life taking care of family, friends, and her animals.

Bonnie never met a stranger and never let a stray dog or cat go without a home. She had a generous and loving spirit.

Services will be held 12:00 pm Wednesday, August 9, 2017 with Bro. Roger Smith officiating at United Funeral Service Chapel with burial in Vista memorial Park in New Albany. United Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be 5:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at United Funeral Service.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Michael; two sons, Jesse Mays (Tammy) of New Albany and Shane Mays of Furrs, a daughter, Naomi Whitten (Joe Thompson); a sister Paula Hall (Roger) of Furrs, a brother, Warren Short (Cynthia) of New Albany, a sister-in-law, Dee Short of Indiana; three grandchildren, Corinthian “Nuke” Sloan (Cody Gause), Myles “Bubba” Whitten (Victoria Stokes), and Mya Whitten and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Bill Short (Peggy) and Bob Short.

Pallbearers will be John Moffette, Sammy Benson, Cody Gause, Rodney Jeter, Robert Moffette, and Ben McGahey.
