Billy Joe Farr
November 23, 1939 – August 28, 2018
Billy Joe Farr, 78, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi in Oxford surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 23, 1939, to Boyd and Clara Lee Farr in Macedonia. He entered the Army in 1957 and served in telecommunications during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He attended Mississippi State University and graduated with a BS degree in Agriculture. After graduation he returned home to open a dairy with his father, which together they operated for many years, along with crop farming. During this time he served as general manager of Union Grain Company in New Albany. He was also an algebra teacher for Ashland High School and had been a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a lifelong member of Cornersville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years until his health declined.
He was a generous and compassionate man, always sharing what he could from the dairy to those in need. He loved the Lord and always saw the good in everyone. He enjoyed debates over politics and other issues and always had great respect for others’ opinions.
Billy had a favorite Bible verse: Luke 6:31—‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’ He lived this out his entire life and we are all better for having known him.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 31, at United Funeral Service with Rev. John McMullen and Rev. Joe Epting officiating. Burial will be in Cornersville Cemetery. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
